Horseriding in the South Downs

There is a substantial network of public rights of way in the South Downs, with many bridleways and byways, enabling horseriders to access the countryside and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful landscape around them. For both your own, and others, safety and enjoyment of the routes we would suggest that you follow these guidelines:

Riders

Guide to Good Riding

  • Always obey the Country Code
  • Be considerate of local farmers and their stock
  • Be courteous to other users
  • Do not ride in large groups (never over 12)
  • Do not jump hedgerows or fallen timber
  • Take home all droppings and straw that may be left in the parking areas
