Green Tourism Club Meetings, Alfriston 25th July and Petersfield 26th July
The first open meetings of the South Downs Green Tourism Business Club (GTBC) took place on consecutive days in the last week of July. Notes of both meetings are now available.
Visit the Downs by bus and train with the ‘Downlander’ tickets
A new scheme offering excellent value for money to encourage visits to and around the Downs by bus and train was launched on 10th July. More about Downlander tickets.
First South Downs Tourism Conference hailed a success
Held in the wonderful setting of the Baron’s Hall at Arundel Castle, the first ever conference devoted to sustainable tourism development in the South Downs attracted 160 delegates, most of them providers of B&B and other forms of accommodation from throughout the Downs. Get the full story.
More Rural Welcome Workshops
Tourism South East has obtained approval and support to continue its suite of “Rural Welcome” workshops aimed at tourism businesses based in the countryside. Find out more.
New history & archaeology tour venue in East Sussex
The Dovecote Garden at West Dean, near Seaford in East Sussex will open to visitors for the first time this year. A “history & archaeology tour” will add to the other facilities at the Garden, which include 2 holiday cottages, a Christmas tree plantation and herb-growing business. Full details.

Award News
Water Efficiency Awards - 2007 Leisure and Tourism is one of 7 award categories in the Environment Agency’s Water Efficiency Awards for 2007, the closing date for entries to which is 31 August. Full award news
Green Apple Award - Hot on the heels of being awarded Gold accreditation in the Green Tourism Business Scheme last year, Old Chapel Forge B&B at Lagness, near Chichester, has won further recognition for its ‘green credentials’, including an “International Green Apple” award for built environment & architectural heritage.
